Renewable energy will be world’s main power source by 2040,

Global warming situation persists!

Global environmentalists and scientists believe global warming is the result of human activities. Carbon dioxide and other emissions are overloading the atmosphere with greenhouse gases that trap heat.

Greenhouse gases found in our atmosphere are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, halogenated gases, nitrogen oxides, and other gases. Source: Sixth IPCC assessment report.

The problem we now face is that human activities – particularly burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas), agriculture and land clearing – are increasing the concentrations of greenhouse gases. This is increasing the greenhouse effect, which is contributing to warming of the Earth.

Greenhouse Effect

Left – Regular levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) are created by normal life processes, trapping some of the sun’s heat and preventing the planet from freezing.

Right – The rampant emission of CO2 from burning fossil fuels traps excess heat and results in an increase in the average temperature of our planet. The solution is to reduce human activities that emit heat-trapping gases.

There are multiple lines of evidence that show the climate system is changing, these include:

        • record high surface air temperatures
        • increased average number of hot days per year
        • decreased average number of cold days per year
        • increasing intensity and frequency of extreme events (e.g. fires, floods)
        • changing rainfall patterns
        • increasing sea surface temperatures
        • rising sea levels
        • increasing ocean heat content
        • increasing ocean acidification
        • changing Southern Ocean currents
        • melting ice caps and glaciers
        • decreasing Arctic sea ice
Observed changes

Environmental experts recommend some solutions on how to tackle climate change by using energy alternatives:

        1. Solar Energy
        2. Wind and Offshore Wind Energy
        3. Hydroelectric power
        4. Geothermal energy
        5. Biomass
        6. Ocean-Tidal Energy/Wave Energy
        7. Energy Storage
        8. Distributed Generation
        9. Advanced Electrification
        10. Power-to-X Energy

The good news is… Europe does have concrete Renewable Energy solutions!
